Dr. Peter Legins, Professor Emeritus at the University of
Maryland's Institute of Criminal Justice and Criminology,
is considered by most people to be the dean of American
criminologists. In meeting with a group of men who
were the founders of Kairos, he said, "I have known
for years, as have most of the leading criminologists in
this country, that the greatest hope for an inmate to
avoid the revolving doors of our prisons is to undergo a
religious conversion experience during his
incarceration."

DeColores!
How can I (we) help
out?
It takes a tremendous
effort from the Christian community to put on a Kairos
Weekend Retreat. Here is a list of ways that you, your
church, prayer group, etc can get involved. Please contact
us by clicking here if you would like
to discuss ways you can help.
-
Prayer -
The number 1 way to help in a Kairos weekend is to pray.
Please pray for the success of the weekend, the safety
of the team, the hearts of the men we are trying to
reach. We have a prayer clock that starts on Thursday
evening and runs through Sunday afternoon. From the time
the weekend retreat starts people are praying around the
clock for the entire weekend.
-
Cookies -
It takes 6,000 dozen (72,000 each) homemade cookies to
put on a Kairos weekend. Wow, that is a lot of cookies!
Why so many? We see that every inmate on the unit gets
at least a dozen homemade cookies. The impact these
cookies have is awesome.
-
Green
agape (sponsorship) - It takes $7,000 to put on a Kairos
weekend retreat. The majority of the money is used to
feed the inmates, outside and inside teams,
(approximately 150 people). The rest is used for
materials, books, etc. The cost to sponsor one inmate to
attend the weekend retreat is $125. It is very special
to sponsor an inmate. This can be done by an individual,
a Sunday School Class, a church, etc.
-
Agape -
agape for the weekend can come in the form of posters,
place mats, individual letters, etc. Agape from children
seem to touch the hearts of these men the most. These
make great projects for children's Sunday School
classes.
-
Team
membership - Would you like to work on a Kairos team? If
you feel that God maybe calling on you to actively work
in the prison ministry Kairos is for you. Certainly
prison ministry is not for everybody, however, for those
called to this ministry it is one of the most rewarding,
challenging, and spiritually uplifting ministries you
will ever be involved in. Do you have what it takes? Let
us talk with you about it. Click here
